La Hacienda Juanita is a peaceful retreat located in the luscious mountains of Maricao, named after one of its founders, a matriarch named Juanita, some of its buildings date back to 1836, when it housed a coffee plantation. La Hacienda Juanita, relatively isolated is surrounded by green mountains.
The reception room is like one BIG living room. On display are old tools used in the plantation as well as some old instruments and machines like cameras, sewing machines (powered by pedal) and eating utensils. The walls have beautiful paintings that are available for sale. It was a frequent meeting place; there we celebrated the family circle.
"La Casona de Juanita" restaurant with mountain-view verandas served us breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The wall-less meeting facility with beautiful view of the mountains was another gathering place. There we celebrated the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the main family conference. The meeting facility was also inviting to play dominoes.
Below the meeting facility was the game room (also wall-less) with ping-pong, pool tables and game machines. The game room was popular with some. Right next to the game room was the very popular swimming pool.
The bedrooms reach back to a simpler time, with rocking chairs, rustic furniture and ceiling fans which provides ample cooling in the low temperatures of this high-altitude (approximately 2,000 feet above sea level) retreat.
Thanks to the wireless Internet access we were able to put the
Family Website on display.
