Just about 6:00 p.m. we gathered at the restaurant for the first meal of the reunion. A good variety of delicious puertorican food were served.
Following dinner we moved over to the activities room for the opening ceremony. A moment of silence was observed during a slide presentation of family members that have passed on. The Rev. Pablo Santiago a native of Maricao and his wife, lifelong friends of Angel F. Ortiz (Monserrate's family) were at hand to welcome us all.
Because many attending the reunion had not seen each other for a long time and others were meeting for the first time a moment to introduce each family member took place.
A slide presentation of the life and times of Maria C. (Chelin) Marrero (1932-2006) (Josefa's family) was shown in anticipation to the Lifetime Achievement Award conferred to her and her husband Ephraim (Frankie) Hernandez for their service and love to those in need. Frankie, although weak in health was present to received the award.
Rev. Linardo Baez, an old friend of Daniel Ortiz (Monserrate's family), shared with us some special memories from the 1960's back in Brooklyn, New York. After singing a song he chatted with the family for a few minutes emphasizing the importance of family unity.
Following the family chat many family members mingled in small groups or one on one till about midnight.
